If you’re looking for a fun day trip from Tokyo and want to experience cherry, peach, and other fruit picking, this is the place for you! Not only have I revisited this spot multiple times, but I also had the incredible opportunity to do a 3-month internship here.
Yamanashi, Japan, is located right next to Mount Fuji and is home to many amazing fruit farms (or orchards!). One of the most popular orchards in Japan is Nakagomi Orchard, where I spent three months as a graduate agriculture student. Below, I’ll share everything you need to know about visiting, including the best fruit seasons, admission fees, and how to get there.
Fruit Seasons at Nakagomi Orchard
The orchard grows five types of fruit: cherries, peaches, apples, grapes, and pears. Here’s a quick guide to the fruit seasons so you can plan your visit at the best time:
Cherries: Late May to early July
Peaches: Mid-June to late September
Apples: Late August to early November
Grapes: Late August to early October
Pears: Late August to early October

How to Get to Nakagomi Orchard Yamanashi
There are several ways to get to Nakagomi Orchard from Tokyo. Here’s the most convenient option, which is also how I usually travel there:
- Highway Bus:
- Take the Chuo Highway Bus for Minobu from JR Shinjuku Station and get off at Shirane IC West bus stop. From there, it’s a 20-30 minute walk to the orchard.
- Travel time: Approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes to Shirane IC West.
- Bonus: If the orchard isn’t too busy, they might be able to pick you up from the bus stop!
Price: 2000 yen one way
Tickets for this bus can be bought on the official website here.
Other options include:
2. Rent a Car: Drive directly from Tokyo to Nakagomi Orchard (about 2 to 2.5 hours).
3. Train + Car Rental: Take an express train from JR Shinjuku Station to JR Kofu Station, then rent a car to reach the orchard. This option is called “Torent a Kun” and can be arranged with JR staff.
4. Train + Local Bus/Taxi: Take an express train to JR Kofu Station, then transfer to a local bus or taxi to reach the orchard.
For more details, check out their official website.
Admission Fees
The admission fees vary depending on the fruit-picking experience you choose:
- Cherry Picking: Approximately ¥2,200 to ¥3,300 for 40-60 minutes.
- Peach and Cherry Picking Combo: ¥3,300 for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
I highly recommend the peach and cherry picking combo—it’s the The peaches at Nakagomi Orchard are the best I’ve ever eaten—juicy, sweet, and so delicious that you won’t be able to stop eating them. Plus, combining both fruits gives you a longer and more diverse experience.

What to Expect at Nakagomi Orchard
The fruits here are simply the best you’ll ever try. The cherries and peaches are my personal favorites—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The orchard itself is stunning, with multiple spots where you can relax and enjoy the environment. On a clear day, you might see Mount Fuji from the farm! (Though be sure to check the weather, as Fuji is often hidden behind clouds).
While there aren’t many lunch options near the orchard, there’s a nice snack cafe near the bus (IC Shirane west) stop run by a friendly elderly couple. They serve simple dishes like yakisoba and karaage, perfect for a quick bite.
